Jogen Chowdhury

This drawing in the signature style of Jogen Chowdhury was made in the Nandan Mela 2006 Santiniketan - a yearly art fair organized by Kala Bhavana students to celebrate the birthday of Nandalal Bose. Anger and determination ripple across the face which is highlighted by the judicious use of red and black with the added effect of making visible the texture of the white paper. The eyeball is upside down following the Indian iconographic convention of signifying anger. The lips are concealed in shadows which communicates that the anger is channeled inwards.
